Another year in the books. Literally. If it wasn’t for Microsoft releasing new Windows version every year, this blog would only be about reviewing books. As usual, i am still in the middle of another book by the end of the year. But this time it’s a really big and kind of boring book (unexpectedly after seeing glowing ratings), so i couldn’t squeeze it into 2024 and it will take a big chunk of 2025 to finish it. I have continued to do book reviews in English, except for one book of Lithuanian author, which i felt was fitting to write about in the same language. It doesn’t seem that English reviews got more attention, but will see below in Matomo stats. Same articles will be in the top as last year for the same reasons (bots).
- Posted 10 entries (-7):
- Technology β 1 (-2), sole Windows 11 24H2 article;
- Books β 7 (-4), less books read, but it feels i was reading the same amount as last year; there were a few books that i read “in one gulp” (Prey, Old Man’s War), but there was also one that made me take long breaks before coming back and finishing it (lowest review score probably);
- General β 2 (-).
- Same like last year – just 1 comment that looked like real one. And again, same article that gets most traffic. Maybe a bot, but doesn’t seem like one and only said “thank you”, didn’t try to sell something or ask to visit their website π (-).
The list of most popular posts (by page views last year):
- Fixing Japanese and Chinese IME problem [EN] β 1453 (+183), as expected it still grew, but not as huge as last year. This article is the only that gotΒ two real looking comments in the past two years. So, i am hoping some percent of traffic is real people and not bots. But it is probably 99% bots getting tripped by some keyword.
- Fixing Windows Defender RCE vulnerability in mpengine.dll [EN] β 464 (-161), dropped a bit, but still top 2;
- Very Basic Openfire + Spark Guide [EN] β 339 (+33), still clinging to the top 3 spot and grew a little;
- Windows 7 β Windows Update check speedup [EN] β 327 (+204), suddenly had a surge and jumped from 9th to 4th place. Windows 10 will be End Of Life this year and someone still cares about Windows 7.
- Fixing SSL error when accessing XenServer after KB3175024 update [EN] β 269 (+93), oldest tech post jumped a few places to the top;
- SMTP Server As a Relay to Exchange Online [EN] β 251 (-23), dropped a bit, but still high in the list;
- Office 365 β Deleting users with the same UPN and Display Name [EN] β 219 (-45), for once this weird anomaly of a post dropped numbers, but it will be up next year for sure;
- Update Connectivity β You are just not updating it right β 151 (-12), dropped along with “windows update” tag hits;
- Enabling Enterprise Mode for Internet Explorer 11 and Edge [EN] β 80 (-18), older article about IE mode swapped places with newer one this year. Drop is less, so it is a steady interest it seems.
- Enterprise Mode changes in Edge browser [EN] β 76 (-68), another big drop this year, although this is a newer article. But i guess people are more interested in enabling it rather than changes.
- WSUS woes with Windows 10 [EN] β 58 (-), last year it got back to the top and this year it even has same count of visits. Even when WSUS tag hits dropped a lot.
- XenServer cleanup [EN] β 38 (-3), still holding on in the top, albeit 12th spot;
- Kinopavasaris 2020 β NorΔtum! [LT] – 17 (new), bottom of the list is more interesting. I would have not noticed this without checking top visits at the end of the year. As i have watched this movie on Go3 local streaming platform, i am guessing maybe there was some promotion or discount for this movie and people were looking for reviews.
- Expiring Passwords Bane [EN] – 15 (new), another new article on the list and another one very old (7 years); also about one less known software. Maybe visits were more about the issue in general (expiring passwords and how to deal with that).
- Office 365 β moving mail aliases in the synchronized environment [EN] β 14 (-53), it was a surprise it appeared in the top last year, so no surprise it is starting to drop now;
- Dealing with Windows 10 feature updates via WSUS [EN] – 13 (back), it was in top 3 in 2018 and then slowly dropped. Usually the other WSUS article higher in the list takes all the traffic.
- Cloud managed Edge IE Mode site list [EN] – 12 (new), this is just a short post explaining new option MS added to manage IE mode via cloud. I guess along with other IE Mode articles it attracted the same crowd.
- Simulating Internet Explorer retirement scenario β 12 (-24), slowly dropping off; nobody cares about IE anymore;
- Michael Crichton β Prey – 11 (new), going into very low digits this time, but i cannot ignore that a review for my favorite book of 2024 actually got some views. Maybe doing reviews in English does help. It’s not. This is the only review even remotely close to the top π
- Google Analytics alternative β Matomo [EN] – 11 (new); it is fitting that last 20th spot is about Matomo, currently used by me for blog stats and which i have replaced Google Analytics with.
A few more honorable mentions: review for board game Carcassonne (in LT) got 10 views and a review for movie Arrival (again in LT) received 9 views. This year there was no interest in my review for Star Trek TNG series π And my only tech article this year about Windows 11 24H2 only managed 6 views (even when reposted on LinkedIn). But it was posted in October, so it didn’t have much time to get more attention. Home page last year got 374 views (+10). Windows update tag received just 80 views (-104) and WSUS β 10 (-34). About page received 40 views (+12). And Technology category garnered 29 views.
